BELLARMINE 68, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 65

Bellarmine’s Ben Johnson shot around the outstretch­ed arm of Central Arknsas’ Elias Cato to hit a game-winning three-pointer Thursday night at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Ky.

After Daniel Sofield’s free throws tied tied the game at 65-65, Johnson hit a three-pointer from the left wing as time expired, evading Cato, who had jumped at Johnson’s first pump-fake and recovered to contest the following shot.

The Bears (9-21, 5-9 ASUN) led 40-32 at halftime, but the Knights (7-21, 3-10) erased that lead by scoring the first nine points out of halftime to go ahead 41-40.

After shooting 43.3% from the field and hitting 7 of 18 three-pointers in the first half, UCA shot 33.3% after the break, hitting 2 of 10 three-point attempts.

Tucker Anderson led UCA with 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including five three-pointers. Cato (12) and Masai Olowokere (10) also reached double figures.

Peter Suder (20), Johnson (14) and Bash Wieland (14) reached double figures for Bellarmine.

OHIO VALLEY WOMEN

UALR 61, SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE 48

Jordan Holman had 20 points off the bench to lead all scorers as Arkansas-Little Rock ended its two-game skid with a victory over Southeast Missouri State on Thursday night at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Holman made 8 of 9 shots from the field and collected 7 rebounds in 24 minutes. Sha’Nequa Henry finished with a season-high 17 points and Faith Lee added 12 for UALR (10-16, 9-6 Ohio Valley Conference).

Southeast Missouri State (8-18, 4-10) was led by Indiya Bowen who scored 15 points. Alecia Doyle chipped in 10 points for the Redhawks who struggled from three-point range, making just 3 of 14 shots from behind the arc.

ASUN WOMEN

AUSTIN PEAY 54, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 42

After scoring 18 points in the first quarter, the University of Central Arkansas women went cold, totaling 24 points over the next three quarters during at loss to Austin Peay on Thursday night at F&M Arena in Clarksvill­e, Tenn.

The Sugar Bears (18-9, 10-4 ASUN) shot 22.2% from the field in the second quarter, 27.3% in the third and 30.8% in the fourth as their 18-14 first-quarter lead dwindled.

A 19-8 third quarter advantage for Austin Peay (14-13, 7-6) was especially crucial as it turned a tied game at halftime into an 11-point lead with a quarter to play.

Leah Mafua had 10 points as the only UCA player to finish in double figures. She was the lone player for the Sugar Bears to make more than two shots, hitting on 4 of 11 attempts.

Shamarre Hale (17 points) and Cur’Tiera Haywood (15) led the Governors.

OHIO VALLEY

MEN UALR 83, SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE 61

Arkansas-Little Rock built a big first-half lead and cruised to a victory over Southeast Missouri State to extend its winning streak to six games Thursday night at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

The Trojans jumped out to a 40-23 lead with 3:24 left in the first half and went into halftime holding a 45-33 advantage. Five UALR (17-11, 11-4 Ohio Valley Conference) players scored in double figures, with Jamir Chaplin scoring a game-high 19 points and collecting 11 rebounds.

Makhel Mitchell continued his strong play off the bench, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Khalen Robinson scored 15 points on the night, while Jaylen Crocker-Johnson and DeAntoni Gordon chipped in 13 and 10 points, respective­ly.

Southeast Missouri State (8-20, 3-12) was led by Josh Earley, who scored 18 points and pulled down six rebounds. Marqueas Bell finished with 10 points for the Redhawks.

SUN BELT MEN

ARKANSAS STATE 79, TROY 71

After blowing a 19-point lead, Arkansas State was able to regather itself and pull out a victory over Troy in a nationally-televised game before an announced crown of 5,107 at First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro.

Arkansas State (14-14, 9-6 Sun Belt Conference) used a balanced offensive attack with six players reaching double figures. Taryn Todd scored a game-high 17 points to lead the way. Freddy Hicks III added 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Izaiyah Nelson finished with 13 points, while Caleb Fields scored 12 points and dished out nine assists. Avery Felts and Dyondre Dominguez each added 10 points apiece for the Red Wolves.

Troy (18-10, 11-4) made a dramatic second-half comeback attempt that came up short. Victor Valdes and Tayton Conerway scored 16 points apiece to lead the Trojans. Aamer Muhammad finished with 14 points, while Myles Rigsby and Christyon Eugene had 11 and 10 points, respective­ly.
