ILLINOIS STATE 8, UAPB 2

Shaydon Kubo and Daniel Pacella had two hits each to push Illinois State (3-5) past the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in the series opener at the Torii Hunter Complex in Pine Bluff.

UAPB (6-3) scored in the bottom of the second inning on JaKobi Jackson’s run-scoring single to take a 1-0 lead, but Kobo drove in a run in the top of the third to start a three-run rally for the Redbirds. J.T. Sokolove and Shai Robinson also drove in runs in the third.

Illinois State tacked on two more runs in the fourth and one each in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings to put an end to the Golden Lions’ fourgame winning streak.

Lawrence Noble went 2 for 4 to lead UAPB (6-3).

MISSOURI STATE 8, ARKANSAS STATE 2

The Red Wolves fell behind early and dropped the series-opener to Missouri State on Friday night at Hammons Field in Springfiel­d, Mo.

ASU starter Jelle van der Lelie (1-1) allowed 5 earned runs on 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out 3 over 2 2/3 innings. Austen Jaslove and Blake Burris led the Red Wolves two hits apiece, with Burris also recording a home run.

The Red Wolves (8-2), who suffered their second consecutiv­e loss, loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth, but were only able to cash in with one run on an RBI groundout from Cason Tollett.

Brandt Thompson (2-0) earned the win for Missouri State (5-4).

The teams meet again today at 2 p.m. Central.

UALR 2, BELMONT 1 (10)

Ben Harmon homered to right field in the top of 10th inning and UALR (5-4) defeated Belmont (6-4) on at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville, Tenn.

Trojans reliever Jacob Weatherley (2-0) pitched around a couple singles in the bottom of the 10th to secure the win by striking out the side, including setting down Mason Landers swinging to end the game.

UALR’s Luke Pectol homered to left with one out in the ninth inning to tie the game at 1-1. Belmont had taken a 1-0 lead on Sam Slaughter’s RBI single in the seventh.

Starter Jackson Wells allowed 1 run on 4 hits with 1 walk and 9 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings for the Trojans. Eric McKnight worked 2 1/3 innings of relief, giving up no runs on 2 hits with 3 strikeouts.

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 8, TARLETON STATE 3

UCA jumped struck first and piled on later to defeat Tarleton State for its fifth game in a row.

The Bears (6-4) scored three runs in the third inning when Mason King’s double to left field scored two runs and a balk by Tarleton State (7-3) scored a third.

UCA regained the lead in the seventh inning on Casey Shipley’s first home run, a two-run shot to left field.

AJ Mendolia hit a two-run home run an inning later and Kade Seldomridg­e drove in the Bears’ eight run later in the eighth inning on a sacrifice-fly.

Jesse Barker allowed three runs in 6 1/3 innings in his start. Mason Griffin (3-0) earned the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Hunter Alexander picked up his second save with 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
