The University of Arkansas is one of the lucky schools expected to get an official visit from highly-recruited defensive back Caleb Chester.

Before he makes his official visit to Fayetteville on June 21-23, Chester plans to make an unofficial visit to Arkansas on April 6.

“Really the most important thing is going to be my mom’s first time to see Fayetteville and all that,” Chester said. “That’s really the most exciting thing.”

Chester, 6-1 and 175 pounds, of Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Marshall, first visited the Hogs on April 8 of last year. He called the trip “a 10 out of 10” in large part because of the way Razorbacks co-defensive coordinator Marcus Woodson and secondary coach Deron Wilson conducted practice.

He said he’s given his mother a heads up on Arkansas.

“I told her it’s a real nice place,” Chester said. “Great weather, nice environment, not that many distractions around the area.”

In addition to his relationship with Woodson and Wilson, he said Coach Sam Pittman, co-defensive coordinator Travis Williams and defensive analyst Nick Mathews are other reasons why he wants to visit the Hogs at least two more times.

“Based on my relationship with Coach Woodson and Coach Wilson, Coach Pittman, Coach Twill and Coach Mathews,” Chester said. “Just the staff feels like family. They show me so much love. Always talking to me. Always trying to help me. They always seem like they’re always looking out for my best interest.”

Chester had 21 tackles, 8 pass breakups as a junior. Rivals and 247 Sports rate him a 3-star recruit while ESPN and On3. com have yet to rate him.

Chester said he also plans to make official visits to LSU, Texas, Texas A&M and TCU. The Razorbacks let him know he’s a priority.

“They make it very clear that I’m a top guy,” Chester said. “They call me very frequently and they text me almost every day. I’m always keeping in contact with them.”

Arkansas, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Tennessee, Oregon, Florida State, Auburn, Florida, Washington, Ole Miss, Michigan State and Arizona are some of the more than 30 scholarship offers he’s accumulated.

It’s important that his mother Ursula Chester in on board with his college decision.

“My mom is like my best friend,” Chester said. “I do everything with her. I talk to her everyday. If I every need anything, she always makes sure I have whatever I need.”

Chester said his mother is focused on academics.

“She always asks about academic questions,” he said. “Like will the academic advisers travel to games with us and things of that nature.”

He has a 3.1 grade-point average and is looking to major in business. He said the Arkansas coaches have talked up the reputation of the Sam M. Walton College of Business.
