Transfer commit flips with Muss to USC

- — Richard Davenport

With Thursday’s announcement of Eric Musselman leaving Arkansas for the head coaching position at Southern Cal, the Hogs’ two-man signing class is in limbo while the Hogs’ lone transfer commitment has flipped to the Trojans.

Former Massachusetts forward Josh Cohen had committed to the Hogs on March 29. But he said he was flipping his pledge to Musselman a few hours after Southern Cal announced it was hiring the former Arkansas coach.

Cohen, 6-10 and 220 pounds, picked Arkansas over Notre Dame, Xavier and Penn State after entering the NCAA transfer portal March 18.

On3.com rates Cohen as the No. 34 overall transfer in the portal. He was the lone transfer committed to the Razorbacks.

Four-star prospects Jalen Shelley and Isaiah Elohim signed with Musselman and staff in the early signing period in November.

Shelley, 6-9 and 185 pounds, of Link Academy in Branson, signed with the Razorbacks over scholarship offers from Ohio State, Texas, LSU, Houston, Colorado, Louisville, Marquette, Texas A&M, Iowa, Oklahoma State, Tennessee and other programs.

Elohim, 6-5, 205 pounds, of Northridge (Calif.) Sierra Canyon, inked with the Razorbacks over offers from Kansas, Villanova, Southern Cal, Providence, Kentucky, Louisville, Texas, Oregon, UCLA, Washington and several other programs.

Shelley is the No. 19 small forward and No. 57 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to On3.com’s industry rankings while Elohim is the No. 11 shooting guard and No. 46 overall prospect in the 2024 class.

Shelley and Elohim can request a release from their national letters of intent. Usually after a coach changes jobs or is fired, schools grant a release to prospects who inked with the coach.

If a school denies a request for a complete release, the recruit may petition the National Letter of Intent Policy and Review Committee, which will review the request.
