UAM receives $75,000 gift for new field lights

Union Bank & Trust Co. donated $75,000 to the University of Arkansas at Monticello Athletics Legacy Campaign.

The funds will support adding LED lights to Weevil Field and Alvy Early Softball Field. This will mark the first time the fields have had lights, allowing the baseball and softball teams to host night games.

Hud Jackson, director of athletics and head football coach at UAM, stated, “We are so grateful for Union Bank’s generosity. They have been a great partner to our athletics department and our university for a long time. We understand how important our relationsh­ip is with them. We are so excited they are part of our Legacy Campaign.”

“We are incredibly grateful to Union Bank for their generous donation to support the UAM Athletics Legacy Campaign,” UAM Chancellor Peggy Doss said. “These kinds of enhancemen­ts to our facilities are essential to support our student-athletes and play an important role in our recruitmen­t initiative­s. I want to express my sincere appreciati­on for Union Bank’s long history of support for UAM. Our ongoing partnershi­p is invaluable and plays an integral part in UAM’s pursuit of progress.”

The UAM Athletics Legacy Campaign focuses on enhancing the support of student-athletes through major facility improvemen­ts. The campaign aims to have 250 donors join each year, generating a yearly revenue of $250,000 toward improving various facilities.

Current full-time UAM students and high school seniors are invited to try out for the Boll Weevils football team April 25 at the Judy and Jack Lassiter Indoor Practice Facility.

Check-in and registrati­on begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Indoor Practice Facility, with the workout to begin at 3 p.m. To sign up, visit: hudjackson­footballca­mps.com.

Each participan­t must have a copy of a transcript, a copy of a physical within the last year, a completed liability form and sickle cell form, athletic shorts and a T-shirt, and football cleats and gym shoes. Athletes will go through stretching, testing and agility stations.

The camp is designed to speed up the evaluation process and get an early jump in recruiting. Athletes will receive hands-on coaching from the football coaching staff.
