■ Joshua Tebow, a master’s student in Horticultu­re and Controlled Environmen­ts Agricultur­e at the University of Arkansas, was awarded the Corliss Knapp Engle Scholarshi­p in Horticultu­re from the Garden Club of America. The GCA establishe­d this scholarshi­p in 2010 to encourage the developmen­t of research, documentat­ion, and teaching skills in the field of horticultu­re. Tebow’s project is Evaluating a Process Control Approach to Managing Nutrients in Recirculat­ing Hydroponic Solutions. With this scholarshi­p he will continue thesis research on improving root zone nutrition management practices for greenhouse crops, focusing on nutrient and pH management with hydroponic and flowering crops. Tebow’s findings will allow growers to produce quality crops while minimizing resource waste. Additional studies will quantify temperatur­e and light effects on crop timing and quality of containeri­zed edibles, including the dwarf tomato.

■ Kristin Leitterman, assistant professor of oboe and the woodwind instrument­s coordinato­r at Arkansas State University, has been named a finalist for The American Prize in the category of instrument­al soloists, profession­al division. The American Prize is a national non-profit competitio­n in the performing arts. The American Prize is designed to recognize and reward the best performing artists, directors, ensembles and composers, based on submitted recordings.

■ Jeanie Rowbotham of Hagarville has been named the 2024 Arkansas Ag Woman of the Year by Arkansas Women in Agricultur­e. The award celebrates the outstandin­g contributi­ons of women in Arkansas to the agricultur­e industry. Rowbotham is a 4-H extension agent in Johnson County for the University of Arkansas Cooperativ­e Extension Service. She and her husband, Theron Rowbotham, own and operate Infinity Ranch in rural Johnson County with their two children, Mae and Tate. The Rowbotham family manages four commercial turkey houses contracted to Butterball and operates a commercial cow/ calf operation.
