UA men in third in Virginia

The No. 11 University of Arkansas men’s golf team fired a 1-over par to stand in third place after two rounds of the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial tournament on Monday.

The Razorbacks had rounds of even-par 284 and 1-over 285 on the 7,116yard, par 71 Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottes­ville, Va.

Tennessee is running away from the field at 23-under, 17 strokes ahead of Florida State (-6) as the only other team under par.

The Razorbacks were in sixth place after round one and reached as high as second place during the second round before falling back a spot.

Arkansas is being led by senior John Driscoll, who fired a 67 in the afternoon round to reach 3-under for the day and a tie for eighth place. Senior Jacob Skov Olesen, who fired a 69 in the morning round and a 73 in the afternoon round to reach even par, is tied for 16th place.

Olesen and senior Christian Castillo both had eagles on the back nine in round 2, Olesen at the 549-yard 12th and Castillo on the 572-yard 15th. Castillo is at 5-over and tied for 43rd. Hogs junior Manuel Lozada had rounds of 71 and 73 and is tied for 25th at 2 over.

Arkansas freshman Thomas Curry birdied his first hole in the second round and carried that score through his first 14 holes before a double bogey and two bogeys late in the round. He’s at 4-over and tied for 37th place. John Daly Jr., playing as an individual, shot 75 in the afternoon round and is tied for 50th.

Tennessee’s Bryce Lewis and Florida State’s Luke Clanton are tied at 8-under in the race for medalist honors.

The Razorbacks will tee off today’s final round at 9 a.m. on the first hole with Tennessee and Florida State.
