Robert A. Fairhurst

-

PORT MONMOUTH - Robert Adam Fairhurst, 54, of Port Monmouth, entered into eternal rest and peace on Sunday January 7th after a two year fearless battle with cancer and other complications. He woke up each morning with a positive attitude and did everything in his power to stay alive for his family. His resilience and ability to adapt to his medical challenges is something that leaves us in awe and admiration. He never allowed us to say, “I can’t” or “It’s not possible” and he stood by those words until the very end.

Robert was a lifelong resident of the Bayshore area. He married the love of his life, Michelle, in 1996 and they raised their three children here, never leaving the area because Rob would say that the ocean was his true home. He was a fisherman at heart and being on the water was his solace. It’s where he did his best thinking, dreaming, grieving and relaxing. He found comfort in being offshore and always came home invigorated with a smile that will now be deeply missed.

He was a lifetime Sprinkler Fitter for Local 669 and employed by Allied Fire and Safety Company for many years. He truly loved his job and his passion showed in the excellence of his work. He proudly joined the Middletown Elks Local #2179 and ultimately served as Exalted Ruler in 2017/2018. He loved taking long rides on his Harley with his friends and listening to a good thunderstorm. He enjoyed the little things in life and would love being with his children the most. He acted rough around the edges, but we all knew that his heart was made of gold.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marcella Fairhurst as well as his beloved brother Adam Fairhurst in 2021.

He leaves behind his heartbroken family - wife Michelle of 27 years whom he is her heart and soul; daughter Sydney and partner Michael with first Grandbaby Mason Robert; son Hayden and partner Carley; daughter Robyn, his namesake. As well as his sister-in-law Tricia (widow of brother Adam) and nephews Kyle and Ryan; sister-in-law Lindsay Smith and her husband Todd along with nieces Haley and Kelly; and mother-in-law Cheryl Armstrong. Finally, but equally as important, he leaves his best Pup, Rudder, who is already missing him dearly, pacing the house waiting for him to come home.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 13 from 2-6 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home. Cremation will be private. There will be a celebration of Robert’s life at Middletown Elks #2179 in Belford, NJ immediately following the service.
