POINT PLEASANT - Robert Edmund Fabricant, M.D., age 88, of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, known as “Bob” or as his mother would call him, “Bobby”, passed away on March 22, 2024 after a valiant fiveyear fight against cancer and Parkinsonism. More than anything else, Bob loved his family and he loved being a doctor. He will be remembered for his warmth, sensitivity, intelligence and generosity by his family, friends, colleagues and patients alike.

Dr. Fabricant was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York by his devoted and loving mother Alice Condron Fabricant. Like many sons of Brooklyn, he came from humble beginnings, but with the unfailing support of his mother, he worked his way through Xavier High School and graduated as a Captain in the ROTC. Bob completed his premedical studies at Georgetown University and in 1960, graduated from New York Medical College with Honors. While completing his Internship at Fitkin-Morgan Memorial Hospital, later known as Jersey Shore Medical Center, he met the love of his life, a student nurse named Jackquelyn “Jay” Hockenbury. They married and moved to New York City where Bob completed a four-year OB-GYN residency training program at Flower Hospital and Metropolitan Hospital in New York City. After residency training, Bob enlisted in the Regular Army, serving as Captain while stationed at Fort Hood in Texas.

In 1967, Bob and Jay moved to Wedgewood Drive in Bricktown where they raised their young family. Bob joined the medical practice known as Ocean Gynecological and Obstetrical Associates (OGOA) and served on staff at both Kimball Medical Center and Community Medical Center. Bob spent the next 52 years caring for women from Ocean and Monmouth Counties, finally retiring at the age of 83 after delivering over 5,000 babies. Bob was caring and gregarious, unable to go anywhere, it seemed, without bumping into a former patient or someone whom he had delivered into this world. He was particularly honored to receive the “Kimball Medical Center Humanitarian Award” which recognized his leadership, unselfish commitment to the community and devotion to patients.

Bob and Jay had a wonderful life together. They spent their early years raising four children, Robin, Bobby Jr., Chris and Matt. Nothing made Bob happier than a good family gathering. He never wanted to miss an event and rarely did. He loved to see you come and he wouldn’t let you go. In later years, Bob and Jay, most often joined by family or friends, would travel together on their boat, “Red Baron”, up and down the East Coast. Bob spent many afternoons patrolling the Manaquan River as Vice Flotilla Commander for the United States Coast Guard Auxillary.

Bob was a wonderful husband, father, friend, and physician. He was well known for his effortless kindness, never ending optimism, gregarious nature and twinkling good humor. He loved all people and found goodness in everyone. His gift to us all until the very end, was the outward leaning joy with which he engaged the world. His absence will be keenly felt, and his presence will be dearly missed.

Surviving Dr. Fabricant are his wife, Jackquelyn and his children including Robin McGill and her husband George, Robert Fabricant Jr. and his wife Emilia, Christopher Fabricant and his wife Malika, and Matthew Fabricant and Cynthia Lindstrom. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren and their partners including Emma and Mark, Terence and Samantha, Eddie and Michaela, Kicca, Bobby and Libby, Ethan, Lila, Thibaut, Nicolas and two great grandchildren, Madeline and Lily. The family would like to give special thanks to Bob’s devoted caregiver, Alex Nyame.

A viewing for Dr. Fabricant will be held on April 2, 2024 from 4 pm to 8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Hwy 88, Brick, NJ 08724. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 3, 2024 at 10 am at St. Catharine Church, 215 Essex Avenue, Spring Lake, NJ 07762. The committal will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 707 Schoolhouse Road, Brielle, NJ, 08730.

In honor of Bob’s generosity throughout his lifetime, contributions to his favorite charities, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Fulfill Monmouth and Ocean, would be deeply appreciated in lieu of flowers. Tributes and condolences are welcome at www.colonialfuneralgroup.com
