Despite the success that both offenses found in Marble Falls, both teams also missed out on scoring opportunities in the first half. Schmidt missed field goal attempts of 44 and 47 yards while Schaefer was intercepted with 2:24 left in the second quarter after the Bulldogs had reached the Mason 23.

Thorndale opened the second half with the ball but Schaefer was intercepted in the end zone on the Bulldogs’ first possession and the team’s second drive stalled near midfield. Mason, meanwhile, got a 54-yard touchdown pass from Elliot Bibb and a 59-yard touchdown run from Raul Silguero in the third quarter.

Thorndale and Mason traded touchdowns within the first few minutes of the fourth quarter and the Bulldogs narrowed Mason’s lead to 41-35 on Seth Barker’s 90-yard kickoff return with 9:11 left. But on the ensuing drive, Mason drove 91 yards on six rushing attempts and Bibb’s two-point toss to Miguel Castillo gave the Punchers a 49-35 lead with 6:17 left.

Thorndale (10-3) was led by Schaefer, who passed for 289 yards and picked up 42 yards on the ground.

Mason got 100-yard rushing performances from Schmidt, Bibb and Luis Castillo.
