Austin serves up heaping helping of seasonal cheer

Dec. 1 and it already looks a lot like Christmas. Some big Austin traditions happening today and this weekend. Here are few highlights, with more holiday events listed below:

Chuy’s Children Giving to Children Parade. A fun one for the kids, with volunteers collecting new, unwrapped toys to donate to the Operation Blue Santa Program. 11 a.m. Saturday. Free. Parade begins at the Texas State Capitol and proceeds down Congress Avenue to Cesar Chavez Street near the bridge. www.chuysparad­e.com.

Holiday Sing-Along & Downtown Stroll. Features Christmas carols led by KUT’s John Aielli, the lighting of the Congress Avenue Christmas tree and shopping. 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Free. Festivitie­s begin at the Texas State Capitol, 1100 N. Congress Ave. 469-1766, www. downtownau­stinholida­ys. com.

Blue Genie Art Bazaar. The sharpest, hippest holiday art market is a juried show that features work from more than 140 local and regional artists. The free, family-friendly event is organized as an open shopping experience. Light appetizers, beverages and a full bar are available. Open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily through Dec. 24. Free. “Navidad Nuestra.” Texas Choral Consort presents “Navidad Nuestra” by Argentine composer Ariel Ramírez, which tells the story of the Nativity through the music and traditions of Hispanic America. Also on the program are premieres of two new works by Austin composers Russell Reed and Donald Grantham. 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
