Pur­suit ends with sus­pect in hospi­tal

A 36-year-old man sus­pected of theft and who later threat­ened an of­fi­cer was hos­pi­tal­ized in crit­i­cal con­di­tion af­ter a high­speed chase ended in a crash Sun­day af­ter­noon in Bell County, au­thor­i­ties said.

Po­lice be­gan look­ing for the man af­ter he was sus­pected of rob­bing a Sprint Store in Harker Heights at about 2:30 p.m. Sun­day, ac­cord­ing to Killeen po­lice of­fi­cials. When a Harker Heights of­fi­cer found the man in a home, the man threat­ened the of­fi­cer with a shot­gun and ran away, later driv­ing off in a Chevy Trail­blazer, po­lice said.

The pur­suit con­tin­ued on Texas 190 head­ing east, end­ing when the man ex­ited Main Street in Nolanville, swerved to­ward a po­lice car, lost con­trol and rolled into op­pos­ing traf­fic, Killeen po­lice say. The sus­pect was not iden­ti­fied.
