A 36-year-old man suspected of theft and who later threatened an officer was hospitalized in critical condition after a highspeed chase ended in a crash Sunday afternoon in Bell County, authorities said.

Police began looking for the man after he was suspected of robbing a Sprint Store in Harker Heights at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Killeen police officials. When a Harker Heights officer found the man in a home, the man threatened the officer with a shotgun and ran away, later driving off in a Chevy Trailblazer, police said.

The pursuit continued on Texas 190 heading east, ending when the man exited Main Street in Nolanville, swerved toward a police car, lost control and rolled into opposing traffic, Killeen police say. The suspect was not identified.
