Trout beats Cotto in 12 rounds

Austin Trout roughed up Miguel Cotto late to win a 12-round unanimous decision and retain his share of the 154-pound title Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.

Trout (26-0) left Cotto’s battered face red and swollen. Cotto fell to 37-4. different in an attempt to save the season that is slipping away. A crew of six owners will meet with a handful of players on Tuesday in New York — one day before the league’s board of governors meeting — without Commissioner Gary Bettman and union executive director Donald Fehr.
