Christmas trees are coming to the 12 featured families in the Austin American-Statesman’s Season for Caring program. Evergreen Farms in Elgin has donated 12 3-footto 4-foot-tall trees, which will be a perfect size for many of the families who live in small homes or apartments.

Season for Caring highlights the needs of 12 families who were nominated by local nonprofit agencies, but it helps hundreds of other families just like them through monetary donations and gifts of goods and services. Since Nov. 25, Season for Caring has raised $63,697. Donations big and small from $10 to $3,000 have been received.

The Evergreen Farms trees will be at the Season for Caring Day of Giving holiday party hosted by Whataburger, taking place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Whataburger at 1501 S. Interstate 35, exit 251, in Round Rock.

Participants can make donations, decorate ornaments to put on the trees and make Christmas cards for the families. Face painting, a bounce house and a balloon artist will be on hand. And, of course, you can get a free picture taken with Santa at the SUM photo booth. The first 50 people at the Day of Giving get a free Whataburger.

Morning radio hosts Terri McCormick of Majic 95.5 and Sara Osburn of Mix 94.7 will both be broadcasting from the event.

After the Day of Giving, the agencies will deliver the trees with a stand and instructions on how to care for the trees
