Project seeks help sponsoring families

Just Because Christmas Project coordinato­r Tino Hernandez has been working with the nonprofit since 1987. Establishe­d in 1983, it serves families living outside Round Rock city limits and families that don’t get help from other agencies.

In recent years, the Just Because Christmas Project has served about 600 families annually, providing them with food, gifts and toys for the children.

Those interested in sponsoring a family – or helping get presents ready for the Saturday distributi­on – may call Hernandez at 748-1763, Cynthia Gonzales at 748-5542 or Lisa Zeman at 801-1629.

Donations should be dropped off at Hernandez Middle School, 1901 Sunrise Road, on Friday between 6 and 10 p.m.

The Round Rock school district STARS Mentor program is looking for mentors. Mentors donate 30 minutes of their time each week after completing training and placement at a campus.

The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is offering $12 pet adoptions for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens until the end of December, according to the Williamson County website.

The shelter is open noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 1855 S.E. Inner Loop. To view the shelter’s adoptable pets online, go to pets.wilco.org.

The Lakeline Oaks Retirement Community is hosting a holiday bazaar at 10 a.m. Friday at 1905 S. Lakeline Blvd. Local vendors will be selling a variety of items and a local Girl Scout troop will perform holiday music. Admission is free.

The Cedar Park tax office at 350 Discovery Blvd. and the Taylor tax office at 412 Vance St. will open an hour late at 9 a.m. Thursday for staff training. All other locations will open at 8 a.m. as usual. All tax office locations will close at 3 p.m. Friday.
