Project seeks help spon­sor­ing fam­i­lies

Just Be­cause Christ­mas Project co­or­di­na­tor Tino Her­nan­dez has been work­ing with the non­profit since 1987. Es­tab­lished in 1983, it serves fam­i­lies liv­ing out­side Round Rock city lim­its and fam­i­lies that don’t get help from other agen­cies.

In re­cent years, the Just Be­cause Christ­mas Project has served about 600 fam­i­lies an­nu­ally, pro­vid­ing them with food, gifts and toys for the chil­dren.

Those in­ter­ested in spon­sor­ing a fam­ily – or help­ing get presents ready for the Satur­day distri­bu­tion – may call Her­nan­dez at 748-1763, Cyn­thia Gon­za­les at 748-5542 or Lisa Ze­man at 801-1629.

Do­na­tions should be dropped off at Her­nan­dez Mid­dle School, 1901 Sun­rise Road, on Fri­day be­tween 6 and 10 p.m.

The Round Rock school district STARS Men­tor pro­gram is look­ing for men­tors. Men­tors do­nate 30 min­utes of their time each week af­ter com­plet­ing train­ing and place­ment at a cam­pus.

The Wil­liamson County Re­gional An­i­mal Shel­ter is of­fer­ing $12 pet adop­tions for dogs, pup­pies, cats and kit­tens un­til the end of De­cem­ber, ac­cord­ing to the Wil­liamson County web­site.

The shel­ter is open noon to 6 p.m. Mon­day through Fri­day and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Satur­day and Sun­day at 1855 S.E. In­ner Loop. To view the shel­ter’s adopt­able pets on­line, go to pets.wilco.org.

The Lake­line Oaks Re­tire­ment Com­mu­nity is host­ing a hol­i­day bazaar at 10 a.m. Fri­day at 1905 S. Lake­line Blvd. Lo­cal ven­dors will be sell­ing a va­ri­ety of items and a lo­cal Girl Scout troop will per­form hol­i­day mu­sic. Ad­mis­sion is free.

The Cedar Park tax of­fice at 350 Dis­cov­ery Blvd. and the Tay­lor tax of­fice at 412 Vance St. will open an hour late at 9 a.m. Thurs­day for staff train­ing. All other lo­ca­tions will open at 8 a.m. as usual. All tax of­fice lo­ca­tions will close at 3 p.m. Fri­day.
