$66,900 earmarked to expand recycling
Commissioners agreed to spend up to $66,900 to expand recycling to many county offices outside of downtown Austin, which lack onsite recycling or only recycle paper.
County staffers are recommending county commissioners hire a vendor to pick up recycling at 26 offices, including the jail in Del Valle, the Exposition Center and small satellite offices.
A new contract for singlestream recycling – which accepts plastics, glass and aluminum, too – would cost up to $66,900, according to a county estimate. The county will also have single stream recycling at its downtown offices, done for free by the Texas Facilities Commission.
