Annual bird count scheduled for Dec. 29

The Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa, LCRA’s McKinney Roughs Nature Park and Bastrop County Audubon Society are hosting the second annual Lost Pines Christmas Bird Count from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 29.

The Bastrop County event is part of the longest running wildlife census, launched by the Audubon Society in 1900 and held each winter across North America. At last year’s inaugural Lost Pines Christmas Bird Count, participan­ts caught sight of 112 species of birds.

Options for participat­ion include all-day land, morning land, morning river and allages-friendly Bird Count 101 excursions. In addition to the count itself, Lost Pines Christmas Bird Count participan­ts will enjoy access to a mix of birding workshops and activities at Hyatt Lost Pines, 575 Hyatt Lost Pines Road.

Planned activities include a birds of prey demo, bird calling workshop, night owls outing and a special dinner featuring presentati­ons by Texas Master Naturalist and expert birder Glenn Olsen and naturalist Margie Crisp.
