An­nual bird count sched­uled for Dec. 29

The Hy­att Re­gency Lost Pines Re­sort and Spa, LCRA’s McKinney Roughs Na­ture Park and Bas­trop County Audubon So­ci­ety are host­ing the sec­ond an­nual Lost Pines Christ­mas Bird Count from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 29.

The Bas­trop County event is part of the long­est run­ning wildlife cen­sus, launched by the Audubon So­ci­ety in 1900 and held each win­ter across North Amer­ica. At last year’s in­au­gu­ral Lost Pines Christ­mas Bird Count, par­tic­i­pants caught sight of 112 species of birds.

Op­tions for par­tic­i­pa­tion in­clude all-day land, morn­ing land, morn­ing river and al­lages-friendly Bird Count 101 ex­cur­sions. In ad­di­tion to the count it­self, Lost Pines Christ­mas Bird Count par­tic­i­pants will en­joy ac­cess to a mix of bird­ing work­shops and ac­tiv­i­ties at Hy­att Lost Pines, 575 Hy­att Lost Pines Road.

Planned ac­tiv­i­ties in­clude a birds of prey demo, bird call­ing work­shop, night owls out­ing and a spe­cial din­ner fea­tur­ing pre­sen­ta­tions by Texas Master Nat­u­ral­ist and ex­pert birder Glenn Olsen and nat­u­ral­ist Margie Crisp.
