Movie series to feature Jim Carey’s Grinch

Celebrate the season by watching a free holiday movie on the downtown square, 103 W. Seventh St. The movie series will feature a screening of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (the live action version with Jim Carey) at 6:30 p.m. Friday, so bring blankets and chairs for comfortabl­e viewing.

The Hutto Police Department is accepting applicatio­ns for the spring session of its Citizen Police Academy.

The program is designed to teach citizens about the structure and workings of the police department, according to a city news release. The classes are scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. every other Thursday from January to May and cover a department overview, recruiting and training and more.

The City of Cedar Park is accepting applicatio­ns to fill an open council seat from qualified residents until 5 p.m. Dec. 31.

Council member Scott Mitchell resigned at the Nov. 29 council meeting because of a work commitment. The City Council will fill the vacancy by appointmen­t, with the new council member serving the remainder of the unexpired term to end May 11.
