Stars shut out Oklahoma City in road win

- From staff reports

OKLAHOMA CITY — After losing their last two meetings earlier in the season to Oklahoma City, the Texas Stars pulled off a 3-0 shutout win on the Barons’ home ice Friday.

Despite outshooting the Barons 15-6, the Stars couldn’t put any early shots past goaltender Yann Danis and the first period was scoreless.

At 8:21 in the second, right winger Reilly Smith struck the puck home from mid-air to put the Stars on the board 1-0.

Shortly after rightwinger Tomas Vincour had netminder Danis beat but struck the goal post midway in the third, Luke Gadzic smashed a top-corner shot from the left circle at 10:39 to put the Stars ahead 2-0. The Barons pulled Danis with 2:15 left to give them a 6on-5 advantage, allowing Texas’ Brenden Dillon to score an empty-net goal from center ice to put the game away.

Stars netminder Cristopher Nilstorp made 21 saves and racked his second straight shutout. Texas killed all five penalties against the league’s top power play team.

The Stars will face the Barons again Saturday at 7 p.m. in Oklahoma City, and Houston on Dec. 26 on the road.
