Stars shut out Ok­la­homa City in road win

OK­LA­HOMA CITY — Af­ter los­ing their last two meet­ings ear­lier in the sea­son to Ok­la­homa City, the Texas Stars pulled off a 3-0 shutout win on the Barons’ home ice Fri­day.

De­spite out­shoot­ing the Barons 15-6, the Stars couldn’t put any early shots past goal­tender Yann Da­nis and the first pe­riod was score­less.

At 8:21 in the sec­ond, right winger Reilly Smith struck the puck home from mid-air to put the Stars on the board 1-0.

Shortly af­ter rightwinger To­mas Vin­cour had net­min­der Da­nis beat but struck the goal post mid­way in the third, Luke Gadzic smashed a top-cor­ner shot from the left cir­cle at 10:39 to put the Stars ahead 2-0. The Barons pulled Da­nis with 2:15 left to give them a 6on-5 ad­van­tage, al­low­ing Texas’ Bren­den Dil­lon to score an empty-net goal from cen­ter ice to put the game away.

Stars net­min­der Cristo­pher Nil­storp made 21 saves and racked his sec­ond straight shutout. Texas killed all five penal­ties against the league’s top power play team.

The Stars will face the Barons again Satur­day at 7 p.m. in Ok­la­homa City, and Hous­ton on Dec. 26 on the road.
