pro­gram of­fers teens op­por­tu­nity to work

Em­ploy­ment will be avail­able this sum­mer for teens ages 14 to 17 as a part of a joint en­deavor of the city of Austin and the Travis County Health & Hu­man Ser­vices De­part­ment.

The Work-Based Learn­ing/ Sum­mer Youth Em­ploy­ment Pro­gram aims to pro­vide teens with a chance to de­velop work­place skills. Teens will work with the city, Travis County, non­profit groups and pri­vate busi­nesses .

To be el­i­gi­ble, teens must re­side in the city or Travis County and at­tend school in the area. Pre­req­ui­sites in­clude train­ing in com­plet­ing a job ap­pli­ca­tion and work­place ex­pec­ta­tions. Par­ents can reg­is­ter teens be­gin­ning Jan. 2 by call­ing 854-4590.
