City offering recycling of trees, free mulch

The San Marcos Community Services Department is accepting Christmas trees for recycling until Jan. 13 in the parking lot of the Grant Harris Building, 401 E. Hopkins Street. The drop-off site will be open 24 hours a day.

Remove all decorations from the trees before dropping them off at the fenced area near the stage. Mulch from the recycled trees is free, with the remaining mulch being used in city parks. Residents must load the mulch onto their own vehicles.

San Marcos residents wanting to dispose of their trees curbside must call Texas Disposal Systems at 800-3758375 to arrange a bulky waste pickup before 2 p.m. on their scheduled trash day. The next scheduled bulky pickup weeks are Jan. 7-11 and Jan. 21-25.
