Smithson Valley RB on Beavers’ radar

Texas has been fertile recruiting soil for Oregon State, and Mike Riley and his staff might dip into the Lone Star state again.

The Beavers worked the state for an electric pair of brothers in James and Jacquizz Rodgers and are courting Smithson Valley running back Lawrence Mattison. The 6-1, 230pound tailback hasn’t qualified academically yet, but Mattison has scheduled a recruiting visit to Corvallis, Ore., in January. Arkansas, Houston and Arizona State is also looking at the running back.Both Mattison and his high school head coach, Larry Hill, took in Oregon State’s Alamo Bowl practice Wednesday at Benson Field on the Incarnate Word campus.
