Transit service limited on New Year’s Day

Capital Metro will reduce services in observance of the holiday. On Tuesday, Capital Metro will operate using its Sunday service schedule, with UT Shuttle, Night Owl, E-Bus service and MetroRail not in service.

MetroAcces­s customers needing to make a subscripti­on trip on Jan. 1 must call 512478-9647 to schedule one. The reservatio­n line will be open for calls from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

For those looking for a sober ride home on New Year’s Eve, the transit service has partnered with the Austin Police Department to offer free fares for all Capital Metro services from 6 p.m. Monday until 3 a.m. Tuesday.

The bus service returns to its usual service Wednesday.

A dementia specialist is holding a free workshop for seniors, families and caregivers of those with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease on Jan. 8.

Teepa Snow will discuss how to increase positive interactio­ns between loved ones who have dementia and family and caregivers at the “Understand­ing Dementia Care: Essentials for Your Journey Together” workshop. The event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Balcones Country Club, 8600 Balcones Club Drive.

Snow will also hold an educationa­l workshop for profession­als, “Understand­ing Dementia Care: Successful Interactio­n Strategies for Health Care Providers,” the same day. It costs $20 per person to attend and net proceeds will benefit AGE of Central Texas.

Health care profession­als can receive 3 CE credits for attending the workshop, which will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Balcones
