Tran­sit ser­vice lim­ited on New Year’s Day

Cap­i­tal Metro will re­duce ser­vices in ob­ser­vance of the hol­i­day. On Tues­day, Cap­i­tal Metro will op­er­ate us­ing its Sun­day ser­vice sched­ule, with UT Shut­tle, Night Owl, E-Bus ser­vice and Metro­Rail not in ser­vice.

MetroAc­cess cus­tomers need­ing to make a sub­scrip­tion trip on Jan. 1 must call 512478-9647 to sched­ule one. The reser­va­tion line will be open for calls from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tues­day.

For those look­ing for a sober ride home on New Year’s Eve, the tran­sit ser­vice has part­nered with the Austin Po­lice De­part­ment to of­fer free fares for all Cap­i­tal Metro ser­vices from 6 p.m. Mon­day un­til 3 a.m. Tues­day.

The bus ser­vice re­turns to its usual ser­vice Wed­nes­day.

A de­men­tia spe­cial­ist is hold­ing a free work­shop for se­niors, fam­i­lies and care­givers of those with de­men­tia or Alzheimer’s disease on Jan. 8.

Teepa Snow will dis­cuss how to in­crease pos­i­tive in­ter­ac­tions be­tween loved ones who have de­men­tia and fam­ily and care­givers at the “Un­der­stand­ing De­men­tia Care: Es­sen­tials for Your Jour­ney To­gether” work­shop. The event is sched­uled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bal­cones Coun­try Club, 8600 Bal­cones Club Drive.

Snow will also hold an ed­u­ca­tional work­shop for pro­fes­sion­als, “Un­der­stand­ing De­men­tia Care: Suc­cess­ful In­ter­ac­tion Strate­gies for Health Care Providers,” the same day. It costs $20 per per­son to at­tend and net pro­ceeds will ben­e­fit AGE of Cen­tral Texas.

Health care pro­fes­sion­als can re­ceive 3 CE cred­its for at­tend­ing the work­shop, which will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Bal­cones
