Dallas Madison used full-court pressure and stout defense to race past Abilene Wylie 92-55 Thursday in a Class 3A state semifinal at the UIL boys basketball tournament.

The Trojans (31-4) will play Houston Yates on Saturday in the Class 3A final. A year ago, Yates lost to Dallas Kimball in the Class 4A title game.

“We did not want to come here and play one game,” Madison coach Damien Mobley said. “Today we took it upon ourselves to play in that final game (Saturday).”

Sophomore guard Admon Gilder scored 25 points for Madison while making 9 of 11 field-goal attempts and 7 of 8 free throws. JD Wallace, a 6-foot-8-inch forward, added 13 points.

Wallace sustained an injury at the 3:30 mark of the third quarter and had to be helped off the court at the Erwin Center. Mobley said later that Wallace’s injury was a “tweaked ankle” and that he will be ready for the final.

Wylie scored only a combined 12 points over the second and third quarters, falling behind 74-31.

Guard Mike Lopez scored 18 points for Wylie (34-5).

Houston Yates 81, Brookshire Royal 70: Four players scored in double figures, led by guard Joseph Anderson’s 18 points, as Houston Yates advanced to the Class 3A final.

A hard-fought first half saw 12 lead changes and 21 fouls. Yates, which will face Dallas Madison in the Class 3A title game, led 4138 at halftime.

Yates (32-4) started the second half with a 16-4 run to build a 57-42 lead midway through the third quarter. Anderson scored five points in the burst while Lorenzo Phillips added a three-pointer. Phillips scored 17 points overall, sinking five threepointers.

“We knew our first half was sloppy so we had to come out and play better in the second,” said Yates freshman forward JC Friday-Saturday, Erwin Center
