A string of Volvos

Lost & Nameless member gets where she needs to go in XC60

Since her daughter started playing violin at age 8, Tammy Zielnicki has been hauling Kimberly (now 17) and her instruments around town and even out of the state for various lessons, events and gigs.

Zielnicki, who is also a grandma, preschool teacher aide and manager of her daughter’s band Lost & Nameless, used to drive a Volvo XC90 midsize crossover and then a Volvo S80 sedan about the time Kimberly got serious about her music.

“Although I loved the S80, I missed the space of an SUV, especially due to Kimberly being a multi-instrumentalist and having to take all of the related equipment to her gigs,” Zielnicki said. “This includes fiddle/violin, Ukulele, bass guitar, bass amp, fiddle amp and miscellaneous music gear.”

And when she started looking to replace her minivan several years ago, she asked a neighbor who worked for Roger Beasley Volvo about the latest line.

“When investigating further, we liked the newer styling of the Volvos and were impressed with the quality and safety features,” she said.

Zielnicki opted for the Volvo XC60 compact crossover.

“The XC60 gives me the best of both worlds: the comfort of a sedan and the cargo room of an SUV,” she said.

Compared to other vehicles, she said it’s smoother, tighter, safer and quieter with plenty of responsive engine.

And she liked the low-pressure sales experience at the dealership.

“The buying experience was very informative without an excessive sales push, which allowed me to get the exact features I wanted, such as the built-in child safety car seats (for my grandkids), halogen lights, two-tone interior, BLISS (Blind Spot Information System), heated seats and front/rear parking assist,” she said. “My 4-year-old grandson Aiden always enjoys riding with his grandma, utilizing the built-in child seat. He’s always asking to ride in my Volvo! I enjoy the no-hassle of having to move and attach a car seat from one vehicle to another.”

The service department at Roger Beasley Volvo and Volvo of Georgetown are also no-hassle.

Zielnicki said employees at both locations are “extremely friendly, informative and

accommodating on appointments. They never try to sell you more than what you need.”

But back to the car: The XC60 has been perfect for road trips, which has come in handy since Kimberly, a senior at Ce- dar Ridge High School in Round Rock, has a busy schedule between school, festivals and even a recent national tour.

Lost & Nameless is playing during South by Southwest, including an official showcase at 9:10 p.m. Thursday in the Victorian Room at the Driskill Hotel. The band is also releasing its new CD, “Empty Spaces,” on March 18, with a release party at 8 p.m. March 28 at the Cactus Cafe.
