Rams’ Bailey to sit 4 games

Wide receiver violated league policy on PEDS.

-

St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey was suspended without pay for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.

Bailey was a thirdround draft pick last year out of West Virginia, and made two starts. He had 17 receptions with a 13.3-yard average and also ran for a 27-yard touchdown.

Bailey will be eligible to return to the roster on Oct. 6. He is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason prac- tices and games.

Browns: Cleveland owner Jimmy Haslam said the Browns have told Johnny Manziel to start acting like a backup quarterback. Speaking at a Pro Football Hall of Fame luncheon, Haslam said the Browns were excited to select Manziel in the first round of the draft. However, Haslam quickly ended any speculation that the highly touted QB will soar past Brian Hoyer on the depth chart. “We were very frank with him that ‘You’re the back- up quarterback. This is a hardworking, blue-collar town. This isn’t Hollywood,’” Haslam said. The Browns also released veteran quarterback Vince Young.

Jaguars: Jacksonville released six players, including starting guard Will Rackley, who started 25 games over three seasons. He missed all of 2012 with an ankle injury.

Bengals: Reserve quarterback Josh Johnson was released on Monday, two days after the Bengals took Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron in the fifth round of the draft. Andy Dalton is the starter heading into the season, with newcomer Jason Campbell in the No. 2 spot.

Vikings: College scouting director Scott Stud- well, 59, resigned from the position he held for 12 years, stepping back to a different role in the front office.

Noteworthy: Manziel had the top-selling jersey among rookies on NFLShop.com. In fact, more Johnny Football jerseys have been purchased since April 1 than those of any NFL veteran. League spokesman Brian McCarthy says NFLShop. com sold nearly as many for Manziel from Thursday to Sunday as it did for Robert Griffin III, Andrew Luck and Tim Tebow combined during their respective draft weekends.

Michael Sam’s Rams jersey was the No. 2 seller, and No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney had the No. 3 seller.
