Driver dies in crash at intersecti­on

A 29-year-old man died Wednesday evening after a pin-in crash in South Austin, police said.

According to Austin police’s preliminar­y investigat­ion, a Nissan Pathfinder traveling northbound on Cooper Lane turned left onto William Cannon Drive around 9:30 p.m. and struck the victim’s Honda Civic — which was moving south on Cooper Lane — in the middle of the intersecti­on when both vehicles ran the yellow light.

The driver of the Civic was taken to University Medical Center Brackenrid­ge, where he died Thursday morning, police said.

The driver of the Pathfinder was transporte­d to Saint David’s South Austin Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.

The case remains under investigat­ion. Police asks anyone with informatio­n about the case to call its vehicular homicide unit at 512-974-5789.

The incident represents the 39th fatal traffic crash and the 41st fatality of the year, police said.
