Driver dies in crash at intersection
A 29-year-old man died Wednesday evening after a pin-in crash in South Austin, police said.
According to Austin police’s preliminary investigation, a Nissan Pathfinder traveling northbound on Cooper Lane turned left onto William Cannon Drive around 9:30 p.m. and struck the victim’s Honda Civic — which was moving south on Cooper Lane — in the middle of the intersection when both vehicles ran the yellow light.
The driver of the Civic was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge, where he died Thursday morning, police said.
The driver of the Pathfinder was transported to Saint David’s South Austin Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.
The case remains under investigation. Police asks anyone with information about the case to call its vehicular homicide unit at 512-974-5789.
The incident represents the 39th fatal traffic crash and the 41st fatality of the year, police said.
