Tetanus shots for flood victims

-

Blanco County will provide free tetanus shots on Friday for victims of the recent flooding.

A tetanus vaccination clinic will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gem of the Hills Community Center, 2233 U.S. 281 North in Blanco.

Health experts say bacterial infections, such as tetanus, often follow flood events because floodwaters can contain infectious organisms. Tetanus causes painful muscle spasms and is potentially fatal.

Authorities urge residents to get a tetanus shot if they have not had a booster in the last 10 years or cannot remember when their last shot was.
