Water increases mosquito threat
Health officials warn that more standing water means more mosquito breeding.
Even as floodwaters recede, mosquitoes will breed in the ponds and trapped water left behind. Their eggs will hatch about seven to 10 days after a heavy rain, Williamson County and Cities Health Department officials said.
The types of mosquitoes that can carry diseases like West Nile virus like to breed in stagnant waters, officials said. Residents should drain any standing water in their yards to help limit their risk.
