UT men’s track and field team finishes seventh at NCAAs,
Oregon claims second straight national title; Texas A&M finishes sixth.
Andre De Grasse of Southern Cal claimed two national championships as he won the men’s 100 and 200-meter finals at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on Friday. De Grasse ran the 100 in 9.75 seconds and took the 200 in 19.58.
The Oregon Ducks repeated as men’s national champions with a team score of 85 points. Oregon wrapped up the final day with a 1-2-4 finish in the 5,000, with Edward Cheserek winning and Eric Jenkins finishing second.
The Texas Longhorns finished in seventh place with 26 points, just one point behind sixth-place Texas A&M.
The TCU men finished second in the 400 relay final with a time of 38.59, just behind Arkansas’ 38.47. Texas A&M took fifth in 38.77.
Chad Noelle of Oklahoma State took first in the 1,500 in 3 minutes, 54.96 seconds.
In the 3,000 final, Anthony Rotich of UTEP won in 8:33.90. Brandon Doughty of Oklahoma took fourth in 8:38.35.
Isaac Williams of Houston finished the 110 hurdles final in 13.31 for third place. Spencer Dunkerley-Offor of Texas finished sixth in 13.45.
Baylor’s Trayvon Bromell ran a 9.88 to secure second in the 100 final. Bromell finished third in the 200 final with a time of 19.86.
The Longhorns’ Senoj-Jay Givans took fourth in the 100 with a time of 9.97. Kolby Listenbee of TCU finished in 10.03 for seventh place.
Zack Bilderback picked up a sixth place in the 400 with a time of 46.50. Vernon Norwood of LSU took first with a time of 45.10.
Edward Kemboi of Iowa State took first in the 800 in 1:49.26.
Kansas’ Michael Stigler clocked a 48.84 to win the 400 hurdles and Texas A&M’s Gregory Coleman was fifth in 50.15.
The Texas A&M men claimed seventh place in the 1,600 relay in 3:06.85.
Texas Tech had a 1-2 finish in the high jump as Jacorian Duffield took first with a height of 7 feet, 5 ¾ inches and Bradley Adkins cleared 7-4 ½.
Ryan Crouser of Texas finished fifth in the discus throw with a distance of 197-5. Clint Harris was 13th at 187-6.
Latario Collie of Texas A&M took second in the triple jump with a distance of 55-9 ¾. Baylor’s Felix Obi took 10th with an effort of 52-8 ¾.
