Kim Davis, the county court clerk in Kentucky who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, finds herself in the middle of a firestorm of controversy. Some conservatives are hailing Davis as a hero for maintaining her religious convictions, while others point to her own checkered past and call her a hypocrite for imposing her moral will instead of performing her duties as an elected official.
Trent Harrell: Some people seem to confuse freedom of religion with freedom to impose your beliefs on others.
Sheree Young: She is terrible for not following the law, is she? Are sanctuary cities violating federal immigration laws any different? Are all cities legalizing pot in violation of federal drug laws not doing the same thing? We have made exceptions for Muslims in their jobs. We have made exceptions for those with religious objections to war. We have made exceptions for people with disabilities who can’t do their jobs. Do you think all of these people should be put in jail, too?
Ann Hudspeth: Who is she? A future rich lady. She’ll resign and then get tons of money through a GoFundMe. Pays to be a professional bigot these days.
Corinna Jimenez-Burtchell: Good for her for sticking to her beliefs, which I do not share. Good for her for being vocal about it, though I have no interest in listening. Too bad her beliefs do not fit her job description. Now, she should do the honorable thing and remove herself. Move on! Let someone more capable do the job!
