GUTHRIE, Erin Nell

-

Erin Nell Guthrie passed from this life at the age of 87 on September 5, 2015 in the loving company of her family. Erin, the youngest of five siblings, was born in Austin, Texas on March 17, 1928 to Sena and William Hoppe. She grew up during the Great Depression and spoke fondly of that simpler, yet challenging time.

Soon after the end of World War II, while working at Bergstrom AFB, Erin met her husband of 39 years, UL Guthrie. Erin and UL made a home for their growing family in Houston, Texas. Together they raised four children.

Erin enjoyed time with her children, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Erin never missed the opportunity to tell her loved ones how special they were to her and would seal partings with a “smooch.” Erin was loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed.

Erin was preceded in death by her parents, Sena and William Hoppe, sisters Carrie Watts, Martha Powell, Francis Burch, and Lillian Davis, brother, Herman Hoppe, and husband, UL Guthrie. Erin is survived by her sons Larry Guthrie and his wife Kerry of Austin, Trace Guthrie and his wife Jamie of Cibolo, Boyd Guthrie and his wife Amanda of Austin, her daughter Tana Knippa and her husband Keith of Austin, nine grandchildren, Cole, Julia, Beau, Allison, Neal, David, Mark, Milam, and Tyler, three great-grandchildren, William, Claire and Ava, and beloved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Erin’s life will be held at the Haynie Chapel Cemetery on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to American Cancer Society or a charity of your choosing.
