Quarterback: Bastrop junior Calvin Henricks has thrown three touchdown passes this season, but senior Benjamin Flores leads the Bears in passing yardage. Dripping Springs junior Reese Johnson and sophomore Collin Berzsenyi have both seen playing time, and Johnson leads the Tigers in rushing. Edge: Dripping Springs
Other offense: After rushing for 141 yards in Bastrop’s season opener against Lehman, junior Javon Jones had 95 yards in a 3626 victory over Elgin. An All-Central Texas defensive back in 2014, Dripping Springs senior Ethan Fernea has caught the Tigers’only touchdown pass this year. Edge: Bastrop
Defense: Bastrop has allowed 20 points per game, and senior Orion Bera scored against Lehman on an interception return. Dripping Springs has forced nine turnovers, and the Tigers have surrendered a total of 24 points. Edge: Dripping Springs
Special teams: Bastrop saw Elgin score on a 91-yard kickoff return during the season’s second week. In a 17-14 loss to Austin High last week, Fernea set up a TD with a 66-yard kickoff return. Edge: Dripping Springs
Intangibles: Bastrop has 11 starters back from a team that posted a 24-14 victory over Dripping Springs in 2014. Since the start of the 2013 season, four of Dripping Springs’ six victories — one of them a shutout of Cedar Park — have been recorded on the school’s home field.
