S.C. game may be moved
South Carolina Athletic Director Ray Tanner is not “100 percent sure” that Saturday’s football game against No. 7 LSU will be played at Williams-Brice Stadium because of the devastating floods that hit the state.
Tanner said Tuesday that officials at both schools and the Southeastern Conference have gone through several scenarios, including playing the game at LSU. He said a decision will be made within the next day and half.
Tanner said there are logistical issues such as roads having been washed away and the possibility that there wouldn’t be enough first responders available to handle duties including traffic and crowd control.
If the Gamecocks cannot host the game, they would take a significant financial hit. Projections from the athletic department showed the school expected to make $3,854,476 from ticket sales.
One thing that’s not a problem is the playing surface or the stadium. Tanner said Williams-Brice Stadium’s field withstood more than a foot of rain from the weekend storms and is in good condition.
UCLA: Injured linebacker Myles Jack has dropped out of school, and he plans to enter the NFL draft next year. Coach Jim Mora expressed trepidation about the decision when he announced it Tuesday. “He’s taking his chips, and he’s shoving them into the middle,” Mora said. “We hope that he draws a good hand. At least I do.” Jack is out for the rest of his junior season after tearing a ligament in his knee during a non-contact drill in practice last month. He was a starting linebacker and a frequent running back for the Bruins during his first two seasons.
Rutgers: A judge has dismissed simple assault charges against Rutgers wide receiver Leonte Carroo. The charges were filed last month after authorities said Carroo attacked a woman after a game and slammed her on to concrete. The woman received injuries on her hip, hands, elbow and head. A Piscataway, N.J., municipal judge dismissed the charges Tuesday night after the woman said she didn’t want to testify.
