U.S. advances in soccer qualifying

The United States beat Panama 4-0 in CONCACAF Olympic qualifying on Tuesday night in Commerce City, Colorado. The U.S. advanced out of Group A qualifying with a 3-0 mark.

■ The FIFA ethics committee has been examining the cases of President Sepp Blatter and UEFA President Michel Platini in Zurich this week, a move that could lead to the suspension of world soccer’s most powerful officials. FIFA presidenti­al contender Chung Mong-joon says Blatter, 79, is a “hypocrite and a liar,” and that he is planning to sue the outgoing president. Blatter is being investigat­ed by Swiss authoritie­s for financial wrongdoing and has consistent­ly denied any involvemen­t.

Auto racing: Richard Petty Motorsport­s will continue with Ford as its manufactur­er for 2016 and beyond in a deal many thought would not happen. There had been speculatio­n that RPM, which has been with Ford since 2010, would move to Chevrolet to take the slot vacated when Furniture Row announced it was moving to Toyota next year.

Cycling: Lance Armstrong’s former physician, Dr. Michele Ferrari, filed a lawsuit aiming to halt distributi­on in Italy of a movie about the disgraced cyclist. “The Program” is due to be released in Italy today. Ferrari, banned for life for helping athletes use performanc­e-enhancing drugs by both the Italian Cycling Federation and the U.S. Anti-Doping Associatio­n, is played by French actor Guillaume Canet in the film.
