RED RIVER DEBUTS

-

Saturday will bring Jerrod Heard’s first career start against Oklahoma. How Texas’ past six starting quarterbacks fared in their first games against the Sooners:

■ Tyrone Swoopes (2014): Passed for a career-high 334 yards and two TDs and ran for a third. UT’s comeback bid in the fourth quarter came up short. Lost, 31-26

■ David Ash (2012): It was a forgettable day for the sophomore. Ash was 13-of-29 passing for 113 yards and no touchdowns. He threw two interceptions and was sacked once before being injured during the second half. Case McCoy relieved Ash, throwing for two fourth-quarter TDs. Lost, 63-21 ■ Case McCoy (2011): Finished 9 of 16 for 116 yards and no touchdowns. The sophomore lost a fumble after getting sacked on UT’s first series. He was later relieved by Ash, a true freshman. Lost, 55-17 ■ Garrett Gilbert (2010): The redshirt freshman completed 27 of 41 passes for 265 yards and no touchdowns. It would turn out to be the heir apparent’s only start against OU. Lost, 28-20 ■ Colt McCoy (2006): Rallied Texas from a halftime deficit with two third-quarter TDs. The redshirt freshman was 11-of-18 passing for 108 yards. Won, 28-10

■ Vince Young (2004): VY struggled in the No. 5 vs. No. 2 matchup, completing 8 of 23 passes for 86 yards. He added 54 yards rushing, but was overshadowed by OU freshman Adrian Peterson’s 225 yards. Lost, 12-0
