UT’s Department of Theatre and Dance is taking on the story known across the world, “The Diary of Anne Frank.” It’s the haunting yet inspiring account of a young Jewish girl and her family’s lives during World War II. Seeking refuge from Nazi persecution, Anne, along with seven others, hid in a “secret annex” in Amsterdam for two years. Told through recordings in Anne’s cherished diary, the play stands as a timeless reflection of her fear, hope and faith during one of the darkest periods in history.

Opening reception 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday. 12 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays through Oct. 31. 702 Shady Lane. www.pumpproject.org.

“Words” is a series of drawings that explores language in visual terms. Drawn and painted with Sumi ink on Tan Rives BFK paper, the collection is united stylistically, although the techniques used and subject matter of each one vary widely. The collection as a whole, done by the gallery curator at Big Medium, embraces ambivalent and multiplicitous meanings and seeks to expose, mythologize or reanimate words.

4 HOPS & GRAIN’S 4TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY

12 to 8 p.m. Saturday. $27.22$37.71. 507 Calles St. 512914-2467, www.facebook.com/hopsandgrain.

Hops & Grain’s anniversary party this year will double as the fourth installment of the brewery’s Bike Affair Fiesta, which has been raising money for nonprofit 1400 Miles, an organization that aims to spark difficult conversations with stubborn men about prostate health. Hops & Grain will have a raffle with prizes at a minimum of $50, as well as live music, a food truck and, as always, good beer and coffee. This year’s party also includes a VIP ticket option.

5 ‘THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS’ AT THE LONG CENTER

3 and 7 p.m. Sunday. $29-$59. 701 W. Riverside Drive. 512474-5664, thelongcenter.org.

“The Screwtape Letters” is a smart, provocative and wickedly funny theatrical adaptation of the C.S. Lewis novel about spiritual warfare from a demon’s point of view. The play, set in an eerily stylish office in hell, follows the clever scheming of one of Satan’s senior tempters, Screwtape. He advises his nephew, a junior tempter, on enticing a human “patient” toward damnation.
