Texas loses 2-1 to Baylor in soccer
The Texas soccer team closed its Big 12 regular season with a 2-1 loss to Baylor on Sunday afternoon at soggy Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Baylor’s Katie Daigle converted a penalty kick in the 65th minute and the Bears went up 2-0 less than three minutes later on a goal by Lauren Piercy.
Texas’ Mikayla Flores scored in the 86th minute, but the Longhorns we unable to kick in the equalizer.
The Longhorns (7-5-4) lost their final two conference matches after winning three straight and ended the Big 12 season at 4-3-1.
The victory moved Baylor (9-5-2) into second place in the Big 12 at 4-11. The Bears are 9-2-1 over their past 12 matches and trail first-place West Virginia (15-1-1, 6-0-1) by six points with two games remaining. The Bears will play their Big 12 season finale against the Mountaineers on Friday.
Texas will play one more regular-season game against Montana on Friday at 7 p.m. at home. The Big 12 Women’s Soccer Championship will start Nov. 4 in Kansas City, Mo.
Women’s tennis: Texas’ Breaunna Addison beat Texas Tech’s Alexandra Valenstein 6-4, 6-1 in the round of 16 and defeated Texas A&M’s Domenica Gonzalez 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals of the ITA Regional Championships on Sunday in Waco.
Addison will face Rice’s Katherine Ip in the semifinals on Monday at 10 a.m.
The winner will play either Houston’s Despoina Vogasari or Texas A&M’s Saska Gavrilovska in the final.
The singles champion will earn an automatic bid into next month’s USTA/ ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in New York.
