ABOUT TEXAS: The Longhorns have won two in a row for the first time since beating West Virginia and Oklahoma State last November. Texas evened its Big 12 record on Saturday with the 23-9 win over Kansas State. Texas seems to have settled into an effective time share at quarterback, with Jerrod Heard as the starter and former starter Tyrone Swoopes coming in on short-yardage situations; Swoopes scored three touchdowns against Kansas State. Offensively, a Texas tailback has had three straight games of 100 or more yards. Defensively, Texas has produced 11 sacks in the last two games.

ABOUT IOWA STATE: The Cyclones’ five losses have come against teams that are a combined 33-3 — Iowa, Toledo, Texas Tech, TCU and Baylor. Iowa State fell at rain-soaked Baylor on Saturday, 45-27. It was the Cyclone’s 14th straight loss against a ranked opponent. Mike Warren rushed for 145 yards, his fourth 100-yard game, and the Cyclones held No. 2 Baylor to a season-low 485 yards. Still, over the last three games (losses to Texas Tech, TCU and Baylor), Iowa State has given up 1,882 yards and 156 points. INJURY WATCH: Texas is relatively healthy, thanks to the recent bye week. RT Kent Perkins, who missed two games, and WR/RET Daje Johnson, who essentially missed two games, both were back for the Kansas State game. For Iowa State, the key question marks are WR Allen Lazard (shoulder), DE Gabe Luna (ankle) and DB Kamari Cotton-Moya.

ABOUT THE SERIES: Texas leads the overall series, 11-1, though the last two meetings have been close.

THE LAST FIVE RESULTS 2014: Texas, 48-45 2013: Texas, 31-30 2012: Texas, 33-7 2011: Texas, 37-14 2010: Iowa State, 28-21

THE LAST TIME: Nick Rose’s 21-yard field goal with 3 seconds left gave Texas the victory, which came after Iowa State had tied it with a touchdown with 28 seconds to go. Tyrone Swoopes’ back-to-back completions of 39 and 29 yards to Jaxon Shipley and John Harris helped Texas avoid overtime by giving Rose the chance to win the game.
