■ Frank Turner & the Sleeping Souls at Emo’s. Like Austin’s rising star Shakey Graves, Turner recorded a duet with Denver singer Esme Patterson on his latest album. And like Graves, he favors juicing up a style grounded in acoustic songcraft with quite a bit of noise and fervor. Turner’s been doing this longer, though, since he left an English hardcore band a decade ago. On the new “Positive Songs for Negative People,” his sixth album, he sought to capture the live spark of his backing band the Sleeping Souls and recorded one song onstage at the fabled Washington, D.C., venue 9:30 Club. Catch a free sneak-preview of the show when Turner makes a 5 p.m. in-store appearance at Waterloo Records.

■ Asian American Resource Center’s “I Want the Wide American Earth.” This exhibition explores how Asian Pacific Americans have shaped and been shaped by the course of history. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Through Nov. 21. Asian American Resource Center, 8401 Cameron Road. austintexas.gov/aarc.
