When did you start competing in cross-country?

I’ve always loved running since I started track in middle school. However, I didn’t start running cross-country until my junior year of high school because in the fall I had always done volleyball. After sophomore year, I just decided volleyball wasn’t for me anymore and that I should stick to what I love.

What makes running fun for you?

I love running with other people. I enjoy pushing people to do their best as well as having others push me. It creates a valuable community for me.

What do you think about when you’re running?

I’m thinking about chocolate milk and Philippian­s 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthen­s me.”

Outside of sports, what do you like most about Regents?

I love the academic challenge and the openness to explore ideas and freely discuss different world views. I also like the support I get from my teachers.

What are your college plans?

I’m strongly considerin­g Westmont College, a small liberal arts school in Santa Barbara, Calif. I’m interested in running both cross country and track. So I’m

If you had the choice of being all-state in cross country or valedictor­ian of your class, which would you choose?

I’d choose valedictor­ian.

If you could have dinner with any four people in the history of the world, whom would you invite?

Dwight Brown, Jesus, C.S. Lewis and Socrates.

Who is Dwight Brown?

Dwight Brown was my dad’s dad, who died when I was 4. He was very wise and kind, and I wish I had gotten the chance to know him.

What do you consider to be the world’s greatest invention?

I’ll say bacon.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?

The South Island of New Zealand. It’s otherworld­ly.
