CatStrong benefit rescheduled for Nov. 21
A core group of the movers
and shakers in Austin’s car community worked diligently to organize a benefit on Oct. 24 for one of their own who has been battling cancer. Unfortunately, the Texas weather didn’t cooperate.
The event had to be postponed until Nov. 21.
Joel Gamma is the producer of Austin-area car shows such as Hot Rods and Hatters, and the Cops and Rodders event, which was recently held in conjunction with the Austin Police Department. It is his wife, Catrin, for whom the CatStrong Show and Shine event has been created.
A Facebook page for the event indicates nearly 200 local car lovers are planning on participating as of press time, and the CatStrong campaign on GoFundMe.com has raised more than $11,000 of its $15,000 goal.
The Show and Shine event is now scheduled to be held at Texas Hatters, 911 South Commerce St. in Lockhart, from noon until 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 21. All funds raised at the event will be used for medical bills, travel expenses and other costs associated with treatment.
The slightly revamped music lineup for the CatStrong benefit includes Dave Wolfe, The Pettit Brothers, Wildwood Four and The Octanes.
Some car-related service providers are chipping in with their skills as well, offering services like pin-striping with the money going to the charitable effort.
The event is free to attend, with a silent auction as well as opportunities to donate to the fund.
A Spooky Community Blood Drive was held in conjunction with the CatStrong Drive on Halloween. In addition to raising
money for medical expenses, the CatStrong benefit will be
one more opportunity for fellowship among like-minded gearheads in the Austin area; a chance to polish the rims
and circle the wagons as the car community comes together to take care of one of its own key drivers.
