New York Mets captain David Wright has a herniated disc in his neck and could be headed to the disabled list.

The third baseman missed his third straight game Monday and said he will be examined by a specialist today. He had an MRI and took oral anti-inflammatory medicine over the weekend.

“It’s been slight, but at least there’s been a little bit of relief the last couple of days,” said Wright, who is having trouble turning his head. “I’ve got my fingers crossed that this medication kicks in a little bit.”

Wright, 33, was on the DL from April 15 to Aug. 24 last year when he strained his right hamstring and then developed spinal stenosis. He has a lengthy physical therapy routine he must go through before each game.

Wright homered in three straight games last week before getting hurt. He is batting .226 with seven homers and 14 RBIs in 137 at-bats this season.

Yankees: Infielder Dustin Ackley has a torn labrum in his right shoulder and may need surgery, manager Joe Girardi said. Ackley was placed on the 15-day DL and infielder Rob Refsnyder was recalled from Triple-A.

Angels: Closer Huston Street was reinstated from the disabled list. Street hasn’t pitched since April 23 due to a strained oblique muscle. The veteran has five saves with a 1.17 ERA.

Rays: Closer Brad Boxberger, who led the AL with 41 saves last season, was activated from the disabled list. Boxberger had surgery on March 17 to repair the adductor brevis muscle.

White Sox: Outfielder Austin Jackson was not available Monday because of turf toe in his left foot. Manager Robin Ventura hopes he can avoid the disabled list.

Astros: Center fielder Carlos Gomez is expected to be activated and be in the lineup tonight at Arizona. He has been out since May 17 with a bruised ribcage.

Orioles: Shortstop J.J. Hardy (broken foot) will have a CAT scan Friday. He hopes to be cleared to begin baseball-related activities.

Giants: Right-hander Chris Stratton, called up from Triple-A on Saturday when Matt Cain was placed on the disabled list with a hamstring strain, made his debut Monday with a perfect eighth inning with two strikeouts.
