Sky Sox capture first two in series

The Round Rock Express held a two-run lead twice, but were unable to hold off the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Saturday in Colorado. The Sky Sox took the second game of the series 5-4. Both teams played again Sunday night and will close out the series Monday.

Nate Orf hit a line drive to center field with two outs in the bottom of the 12th inning to score Yadiel Rivera to secure the win for the Sky Sox. Keon Broxton went 3 for 5 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs for the Sky Sox (46-51).

The Express (49-52) scored two runs in the first inning, cashing in on a triple by Brett Nicholas and a Joey Gallo ground out. Nicholas’ triple drove home Doug Bernier before he was driven home by Gallo.

Both starters had solid outings, Eric Jokisch allowed a run on five hits through five innings for Round For a report from Sunday’s late Express-Sky Sox game, go to Rock while Josh Hader allowed two runs on three hits through six innings for Colorado Springs. David Goforth (3-3) picked up the win.

Sky Sox 10, Express 2, late Friday:

Joey Gallo hit his 18th home run of the season in the eighth and Kyle Kubitza drove in a run with an RBI double in the ninth, but the Express were too far behind for it to matter.

In all, Colorado Springs had 19 hits, five going for extra bases.

Brent Suter (4-4) tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win for the Sky Sox.

Chi Chi Gonzalez (4-7) went 51/3 innings, allowing six runs and 12 hits, with four strikeouts and one walk.
