Amazon to employ 1,000 at its San Marcos center
Amazon.com Inc. this week opened its San Marcos facility, where it expects to employ about 1,000 workers. Amazon’s robotics fulfillment center will begin fulfilling customer orders next week for the San Antonio and Austin areas.
At a celebration, the company welcomed Texas State University mascot Boko and heralded the arrival of the first inventory item, a Pop! The Pig toy.
The company says it is still hiring for jobs that receive the same benefits as their corporate colleagues, including stock options, bonuses, health care, a 401(k) plan with a 50 percent match and maternity/paternity leave benefits.
Those interested can apply at amazon.com/sanmarcosjobs.
The company received an $11 million incentives package from Hays County to build the facility. It will ship smaller items such as books and toys, while a similar robotics facility in Schertz handles larger items such as TV sets.
