Former Vandegrift High standout Dakota Prukop, an FCS All-American in 2015 for Montana State, has been named the starting quarterback for the Oregon Ducks.

Prukop transferred to Oregon after two seasons at Montana State, where he was twice an All-Big Sky honoree. Last season, he was a semifinalist for the STATS Football Championship Subdivision player of the year. Prukop, who completed 20 of 29 passes for 190 yards in Oregon’s spring game, was chosen as the Ducks’ starter Friday.

Oregon will open the 2016 season against visiting UC-Davis on Sept. 3.

Prukop, a two-year captain for the Vipers, was named to the All-District 25-4A team as a quarterback and a safety after his senior season. He became the first Vandegrift football player to accept a scholarship when he signed with Montana State in 2012. In two seasons as the Bobcats’ starter, he passed for 5,584 yards, the fifth-best total in program history. Aggies get former Baylor pledge: Bellaire defensive lineman Jayden Peevy, a one-time pledge to Baylor, announced Friday at a pep rally that he was committing to Texas A&M. He’s listed as a three-star prospect in the 247sports.com composite rankings.

Peevy withdrew his commitment from Baylor on May 27, the day after coach Art Briles was suspended with intent to terminate.

He also considered Houston, Mississippi and Tennessee.

Peevy is a raw talent. This

will be only his second season playing organized football. He’s 6 feet 7 and 279 pounds and could end up as an offensive tackle.

Peevy is A&M’s 17th commitment.

Two other pledges were formerly committed to Baylor: quarterback Kellen Mond and receiver Hezekiah Jones. Both are four-star prospects. — SUZANNE HALLIBURTON TCU names Hill starting

QB: Kenny Hill, you have another chance to get it right.

Late Thursday, TCU coach Gary Patterson announced that Hill, once the starter at Texas A&M, had won the competition for the quarterback job.

Hill, who transferred to TCU in June 2015, beat out Foster Sawyer.

“He’s done a great job of redoing himself,” Patterson told reporters.

Hill was Johnny Manziel’s backup at Texas A&M in 2013. The next season, he helped lead the Aggies to wins in their first five games. Hill’s starting debut was spectacular: He threw for 511 yards, breaking Manziel’s single-game school record, and four touchdowns at South Carolina.

But Hill and the Aggies floundered in a three-game October losing streak. Hill was suspended and did not see action as an Aggie after a 59-0 shutout at the hands of Alabama on Oct. 18.

TCU will open Sept. 3 against South Dakota State.
