Austin’s Moore fields 2 cars
His Moorespeed is based near Circuit of the Americas.
The Austin racing community has a presence on United States Grand Prix weekend, as owner David Moore is fielding two cars in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
Will Hardeman, an Austin native, and Alec Udell of Houston are the only U.S. drivers in the field for the Porsche support races Saturday and Sunday.
Moorespeed, which runs its operation just down the road from Circuit of the Americas, is the lone American team that regularly competes in the top-tier GT3 Cup events.
“I am stoked to be racing in the Porsche Supercup,” said Hardeman, who’s making his debut in this series. “This is going to be a step up in competition from what we have in America. These are some of the best young drivers in the world. If I can run comfortably with them, I’d be pretty happy with that.”
Hardeman posted four consecutive Porsche GT3 Cup podium finishes on his home track this year and had success at the Pirelli World Challenge in March.
“We reached out to Porsche before (regarding the Porsche Supercup series), probably a little prematurely, and then I backpedaled because we weren’t ready,” Moore said, “but we finished strong, had some inquiries from Porsche, and here we are.”
Udell won the GT3 Cup Challenge championship with a dominating 12 race victories in 2016. He started the year with a victory at COTA in March.
