LUXURY REVIEW

Porsche Cayenne

Austin American-Statesman - - CARS - By Olivia Olsen

Starting at $59,600, the Porsche Cayenne is the luxury crossover within reach.

From its smooth and quiet yet powerful engine to its sleek design and superior technology, the Cayenne is a vehicle you’ll find excuses to drive.

The Cayenne is powered by a 3.6-liter, 300 horsepower engine, providing drivers with an ease of acceleration so exhilarating it will make it difficult to let your foot off the gas. The Cayenne propels itself from zero to 60 in 7.3 seconds, conquering even the shortest of on-ramps or merging lanes with ease. With an eight-speed Triptonic S transmission, the temptation to reach its top track speed of 161 miles per hour will be hard to resist.

The sharp and sophisticated exterior is a wonder to behold. A completely redesigned hood, front panels and bi-xenon headlights mold together to form a sleek and dynamic body that begs to be touched.

Active all-wheel drive through Porsche Traction Management will inspire you to explore the world around you, take the roads less traveled and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. When you find yourself traveling down that long forgotten road, the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system will help guide you home. Command the PCM conversationally to do a number of impressive tasks. The high resolution touch screen hosts an integrated proximity sensor for superior operating performance.

Connecting audio devices through the internal Jukebox audio system is a breeze. iPhones can connect through the built in USB and aux inputs while SD card readers will play the music that no longer fits on your limited-storage phone.

Safety and technology blend together in the PCM. Real time traffic updates and route processing help ensure you’re driving in the best conditions available. while the hands free Bluetooth setup encourages you to keep the phone out of sight. In addition, Google Street View will show you exactly what you should be looking for when driving through uncharted territory. Smart cruise control and Porsche Active Safe will help eliminate the worries and stresses of safe driving.

Remotely control your vehicle from your wrist with the Porsche Car Connect available on iPhone and Apple Watch.

The Porsche Connect app links your smartphone to the vehicle, seamlessly merging your mobile life. Calendars and stored addresses can be exchanged through the app preventing the need to look through your text messages for restaurant and meeting locations. The app even allows users to send destinations from their smartphone to their vehicle to pull up when they start the car.

Comfort is a key aspect of the Cayenne. Memory foam, adaptive sports seats with heating components in both front and rear seats have caused dreaded, uncomfortable car rides to be a distant memory.

The Cayenne’s assist systems are extraordinary and numerous. The surround view cameras, visible from the console touchscreen, give the vehicle the ability to sense any and all objects within collision proximity. Lane departure warnings and lane change assist will prevent bumbles caused by blindspots and momentary distractions. Similarly, park assist will give you the perfect parallel park to impress just about any onlooker.

For all of its features, the 2017 Porsche Cayenne is a purchase well worth the dollar sign.
