Country superstar Garth Brooks delivers a keynote at 2 p.m. at the Austin Convention Center. A twist late Wednesday: A “very special press conference” with Brooks at 11 a.m. Friday was announced. A Brooks performanc­e? The return of Chris Gaines? Stay tuned.

2 TRIBUTE TO A FRIEND: CELEBRATIN­G PRINCE:

band, the Revolution, pay tribute to the Minneapoli­s music icon. If we’re lucky, one of the special guests will be Lizzo, who destroyed a cover of the “Beautiful Ones” at his hometown memorial the day Prince died. 3 BIG SHOWS: 4 BIG STAR’S THIRD:

Chris Stamey’s tribute to iconic 1970s band Big Star includes the band’s drummer, Jody Stephens, plus Mike Mills of R.E.M., Ken Stringfell­ow of the Posies, Austin’s Tosca Strings and more. (10:30 p.m. Central Presbyteri­an Church)

5 LOCAL FAVORITE:

South by San Jose continues in the parking lot shared by Jo’s Coffee and the San Jose Hotel. Friday’s lineup includes Hurray for the Riff Raff, Spiral Stairs and Valley Queen. Free and open to the public. Music starts at 1 p.m.; set times can be found on the event’s Facebook.
