Jersey thief sus­pect a ‘fan’ at Su­per Bowl

The Mex­i­can me­dia ex­ec­u­tive sus­pected of steal­ing Tom Brady’s jersey went to the Su­per Bowl as a work­ing jour­nal­ist but spent the week col­lect­ing self­ies and au­to­graphs from football greats and boast­ing to col­leagues he was there as a fan.

Martin Mauri­cio Ortega, for­mer di­rec­tor of the tabloid La Prensa, was the sub­ject of a search war­rant that turned up the miss­ing jersey and also a hel­met that might have be­longed to Bron­cos line­backer Von Miller, who was MVP of Su­per Bowl 50 .

■ Quar­ter­back Mitchell Trubisky drew a larger than usual crowd to the Univer­sity of North Carolina’s pro work­outs. Tar Heels spokesman Kevin Best said the pro day at­tracted 75 NFL of­fi­cials rep­re­sent­ing all 32 teams.

■ Three Min­nesota football play­ers were cleared of sex­ual ha­rass­ment al­le­ga­tions in the fi­nal round of ap­peals at the school and will be al­lowed to re­turn to spring prac­tice, while two more had their sus­pen­sions in con­nec­tion with al­le­ga­tions of a sex­ual as­sault up­held.
